Help Veterans Save Victims of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda)

Item # 52109

Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) ravaged the Philippines on November 8, leaving utter devastation in its wake. Weather experts have said the storm was three-and-a-half times as strong as Hurricane Katrina, which cost $108 billion in relief.

In response to Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), our trusted partner, Team Rubicon, has deployed 15 highly trained volunteers to Tacloban. They'll be joined by three Norwegians from Making Change, a veterans based relief org out of Norway. Together, they'll be supporting medical triage for Mammoth Medical, who is setting up a full-scale field hospital staffed with 17 surgeons. Due to the conditions on the ground, at the time of deployment, Team Rubicon, Making Change and Mammoth Medical were the only organizations authorized to do relief work in the area. The team is prepared to remain self-sufficient and on the ground through November 19th. is proud to raise much needed funds for Team Rubicon's Operation Seabird.

According to the latest estimates, up to 4 million people may be affected by the disaster. Transportation is disrupted, communication links are down, and debris is blocking roads throughout the country. Still unsteady from a massive earthquake in October and heavy monsoon flooding, the Philippines need help now more than ever.

You can help. Donate now to support the heroic efforts of these veterans in providing aid for survivors of Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda).

Watch the CBS News video below, which highlights Team Rubicon as they geared up for last year's clean-up efforts in New Jersey:

Team Rubicon's primary mission is to provide disaster relief between the moment a disaster happens and the point at which conventional aid organizations respond. This "gap" is the crucial window following a disaster when victims have traditionally been without outside aid. Since its creation in January 2010, Team Rubicon has impacted thousands of lives — in Haiti, Chile, Burma, Pakistan, Sudan, and here at home, in Vermont, Maryland, Missouri, and Alabama, reaching victims outside the scope of traditional aid organizations.
