Recycled Bike Chain Menorah

Item # 50892
In Stock

This menorah, made of recycled bicycle chain, celebrates a spirit of innovation and endurance. Used to celebrate Hanukkah or the Festival of Lights, menorahs have nine candle holders - each symbolizing a day in the eight day Hanukkah celebration, while the ninth candle, called the Shamash, is lit first and then used as a source of fire for the other eight.

Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights or the Feast of Dedication, celebrates the re-dedication of the great Temple in Jerusalem around 165 BCE. According to legend, only one day's worth of sacramental oil remained when the Temple was rededicated. Miraculously, the oil for a single day burned for the entire eight days necessary to get more oil to keep the "eternal light" burning.

  • Recycled bicycle chain
  • 1.5" H x 7" L (4 x 18 cm)
  • Handmade in and fairly traded from India

November 19, 2013 - Gorgeous! Looks and feels solid and high-quality, and fits candles snuggly enough that I don't think drips/clogs will be a problem. With such a thin base, I was worried balance would be an issue, but it stands perfectly well. Would buy again in a heartbeat!

January 17, 2013 - Interesting, unique, and fun. Was a gift to an avid bike rider, and he got a huge kick out of it.
