Wood ornaments, 'Three Wise Men' (set of 3)

Item # 47502
In Stock

A serious demeanor distinguishes these handsome personages as wise men. Also known as the three kings, they brought gifts to baby Jesus. Daniel Nyadedzor sculpts the trio from sese wood, bringing African art to holiday décor.

Because each ornament is individually carved and painted by hand, the features may vary slightly. Made in Ghana.

Daniel Nyadedzor has been featured in the San Antonio Express News.

"In 1996, after finishing school and a year's national service, I decided to help my brother who was a carver and had his own shop. I did all his paperwork.

"Initially, the work done did not measure up to internationally accepted standards. Quality control was poor. However, after working with him for a few months I realized the need to incorporate certain measures. After tasking ourselves to reach the international standards, the business grew tremendously. We have been working together all these years.

"We work with a type of hardwood known as sese for carving the masks. There are about twenty people working with us, most of them apprentices. The nature of our work involves the chipping of wood to get a desired figure or shape. It is polished and sandpapered for a smooth and quality object. Red and black emulsion paint is then used for the finish. The image is first sketched on paper though sometimes, our customers also come up with interesting ideas, too.

"Our products are always given the antique finishing, which our customers especially love, and their kind remarks and comments spur us on to do better."
