Help Rebuild an Animal Shelter
Many animal shelters are in need of repair and support services for their animals, but do not have the operating budgets to implement needed changes. That's where Rescue University's student volunteers and professional advisors come in.
Student volunteers come together to build or refurbish the spaces animals spend the most time in: housing and exercise areas. They also repair buildings and fencing, and provide raised beds and toys for animals. The passion and engagement these students bring, combined with the experience of professionals overseeing the work, result in improved conditions for the animals who are still waiting for their forever homes.
Your donation makes these projects possible. Just $25 helps ensure this program will grow to rebuild shelters across the country. In 2011, Rescue U volunteers completed more than twenty-three shelter projects. They began 2012 with a major rebuild of the tornado-flattened shelter in Guthrie, OK. Organizers plan to have projects in all the continental states by the end of 2015.
Report from the Field
Trudy Ender, Executive Director, Humane Society of West Michigan, August 2012:
"Rescue U achievements will forever be imprinted on Humane Society of West Michigan, and I would be remiss if I didn't extend a heartfelt thank you to The Animal Rescue Site for making it happen..."
Suzy Brown, Animal Control, Guthrie, OK, January 2012:
"It has been an amazing honor to be the recipient of your great gifts to us. The changes that you have made for our shelter are nothing short of miraculous."
A video thank you from Humane Society of Jefferson County:
Kasey Martini, Delaware Valley College student and Rescue U volunteer:
"This trip [in 2011] I learned not only about animal care in South Carolina, but also about myself. I was able to participate in the physical building of the shelter, more so then ever before. I feel that I am truly making a difference in the lives of homeless pets, making them more adoptable and helping to save lives."
The Petfinder.com Foundation is a non-profit 501c3 public charity whose mission is to help ensure that no adopt-able pet is euthanized for lack of a home. The Foundation works with Petfinder.com member shelters and rescue organizations across North America. Since 2003, the Foundation provided over $10 million worth of grants to help homeless pets and those who care for them.
Rescue University's mission is to provide aid to shelters in order to improve the lives of animals by participating in outreach trips, collecting supplies for shelters and educating the public on proper animal care. The two organizations work together to provide services to save companion animal lives.
