Beaded Star Amazonian Basket

Item # 44972
In Stock

Hand-woven in traditional Peruvian style, our gorgeous basket is made with grass and huayruro seeds. A lovely fruit basket or stunning wall hanging.

Made in Chino, a village adjacent to the Reserva Comunal Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo, one of the largest communal reserves in South America, this basket helps provide those living in the forest with an alternative to slash-and-burn agriculture. The Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo is one of the most biologically diverse reserves in the world, supporting a record 14 species of primates.

The huayruro seed is grown for its ornamental value and used extensively in tribal ornaments and jewelry in Andean culture. Although poisonous if eaten, huayruro seeds are treasured for their naturally-occurring red and black coloring.

  • Natural grass & seeds
  • Approximately 14.5" dia. (36.8 cm)
  • Handmade in and fairly traded from Peru
