You can help send a girl to school in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Watch the video below to meet some of the girls who have been helped by Connect To Learn's programs. Then donate to help others like them!
In Sub-Saharan Africa, only 17% of girls attend secondary school. Those not in school have little hope for a bright future: 42% are married before the age of 18, and 14.3% become pregnant between the ages of 15 and 19, with that number rising as high as 65% in some countries. "If a girl does not go to secondary school, her fate will be to marry young and have a low standard of living as a farmer," says Tadele Atakelti, Education Coordinator for the Millennium Village of Koraro, Ethiopia.
Smret Gibrekinos, age eighteen, agrees: "If I was not supported by the scholarship program, I would already be married. . . .I study all the time to be a doctor." Smret is the first girl in the Millennium Village of Koraro, Ethiopia to complete secondary school and apply to a university. Improving the education of girls is one of the most lasting ways to increase stability, prosperity, and peace. When girls have the opportunity to further their education, their standard of living rises, and their families have a better chance of escaping the crushing cycle of poverty.
You can help! Connect To Learn is a global initiative providing secondary school scholarships to students in impoverished communities with a special emphasis on girls. Your donation helps provide a girl with the tools and tuition she needs to be able to attend secondary school.
