Help Artisans in Haiti Recover
Roll over image to zoom in
If Haiti is to rebuild itself, Haitians must be able to earn a living.
In the wake of the devastating January 2010 earthquake, hundreds of small artisan cooperatives were forced to cease production. Buildings, tents, and trucks were smashed; power outages are still a problem as generators are often still unobtainable; tools and raw materials were buried or destroyed. Haitian artisans who built successful craft workshops over many years need material and financial assistance to rebuild.
At GreaterGood Network, we have longstanding ties to many Haitian artisan groups. We have pledged to help these cooperatives recover. The goal is to help 100 Haitian artisan workshops rebuild. The average cost to do so will be $1500 per workshop, which covers many expenses, including buying new tools, providing electric generators, and rebuilding structures or paying for relocation costs.
