At the GreaterGood Network, we have worked for years with artisan families in Haiti. In the wake of this devastating earthquake, we extend our hope and sympathy to these families. We hope you will help us do even more to aid their recovery. Every purchase of a fair-trade item from Haiti donates extra to help Haitian artisans affected by the earthquake.

Thank you for building hope and helping to heal Haiti.

When it comes to holiday decorating, break out of the ordinary with unmistakable style and bold color! Handmade with sheet metal painted in vibrant tones, these durable ornaments represent a dynamic connection with the divine.

Veve are symbols believed by certain groups, primarily in Haiti, but also ranging from Africa to South and Central America, to represent higher spirits. Similar in many ways to saints and angels, these spirits act as intermediaries that allow divine forces to communicate with humankind.

Choose from:

  • Agwe is known as the husband of Erzulie Freda, and is respected as the master of the sea. He is considered the protector of fishermen and sailors.
  • Baron La Croix is believed to represent the ultimate expression of individuality, as well as sensuality and death. Far from being a negative spirit, he helps show the absurdity in death, reminding us to be happy and well, living every moment of our lives to the fullest.
  • Erzulie Freda -- thought to be pure femininity and compassion -- is often represented by a heart symbol. She is said to be the epitome of human beauty, and to represent love, beauty, jewels, flowers, and the joyful spirit of dancing.
  • Ghede are said to be a family of benevolent, generous, and healing spirits. In addition to representing fertility, they are thought to be great protectors of children.
  • These ornaments are created by a multinational group of young entrepreneurs. The company works to promote employment in Haiti by teaching unskilled workers trades. They also help independent artists find new markets. The company currently employs about 400 people, half men and half women.

Ornaments measure approximately 3.5" L(8.9 cm) and hang from a length of ribbon. Handmade in and fairly traded from Haiti.
