These little angels might be surprised, but the only surprise in store for you is how charming they'll look on your Christmas tree! Add a touch of globe-trotting flair and color with these traditional ceramics from Peru.

Handmade in Peru using time-honored techniques, these six winged terra cotta figurines are individually painted in different colors. With one hand covering their mouths in surprise, each one has a string attached for hanging on your tree or anywhere in your house that could use a little angel watching over it.

Angels measure 1.75" T (4.4 cm). Handmade in and fair-trade imported from Peru.

Artisan One World Projects - Anwar Saleem

Their mission is spelled out in their name: One World Projects brings together isolated communities of artisans with an appreciative buying public, to support a fair trade, ecological, sustainable, and impressive business model. Since 1992, their network has branched out to support and encompass more than 11,000 artisans across the globe, allowing their handcrafted and fairly traded creations to find far-away markets.

Artisans like Anwar Saleem from the Indian cooperative Noah's Ark, work in recycled metals to craft items which are perfect for use indoors or out in the garden or patio. Not only does the factory-discarded metal find a beautiful new purpose, these items enable One World Projects' network of 600 artisans to support their families and whole communities. Anwar is a second-generation lamp-maker whose parents died when he was only 18, leaving him responsible for three younger siblings. Working with his uncle, he learned the craft of lacquering lanterns but was unable to make a living wage until he found employment with Noah's Ark. The fair wages he received turned his family's lives around.

One World Projects' slogan "uniting the world through compassionate trade" is the guiding force in their mission to create viable economic alternatives for artisans and expand the reaches of ethical and fair trade to address the most pressing humanitarian issues that face mankind today.
