Goal: 20,000 Progress: 13,234
Sponsored by: U.S. Fund for UNICEF

Around the world, at least 93 million children — or 1 in 20 of those aged 14 or younger — live with a moderate or severe disability. Each one of these children is more than a statistic; each child is a son or daughter, brother or sister, friend or classmate.

Each should have the same rights and opportunities as any other child. Governments must do their part by ratifying the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

It is time for the United States to ratify the CRPD! The U.S. Senate will consider the CRPD for ratification this year. We need you to let your Senators know that you support this important human rights treaty!

Support the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing to let you know that I strongly support the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and I urge you to support ratification of this important treaty.

I am particularly concerned about the plight of children with disabilities. Globally, at least 1 in 20 children aged 14 or younger live with a moderate or severe disability. Children with disabilities are targets of discrimination, exclusion, stigmatization, neglect, exploitation, violence and abuse. Worst of all, children with disabilities are too often invisible — ignored by governments and communities.

I believe our Nation has made great strides in removing barriers for people with disabilities. Ratifying the CRPD would reinforce our global leadership as advocates for people with disabilities, and also help us continue to improve our own laws and policies to ensure full participation of people with disabilities.

Please vote in favor of ratifying the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Petition Signatures
