Goal: 15,000 Progress: 9,358
Sponsored by: StudentsFirst

America's schools are failing our kids. On international comparisons, U.S. kids are in the middle of the pack or worse. Fixing the problem requires an education system that puts students' needs ahead of special interests or wasteful bureaucracies.

To succeed in our mission, we are demanding that lawmakers, courts and school administrators create and enforce policies that put students first. No school-based factor is more important than the quality of the teacher. We must recognize, reward and retain excellent educators. We also want to ensure families can choose among several excellent schools, not just get stuck with one underperforming choice. Americans know, and we want to remind them, that our schools are an anchor for our communities and gateway to our national prosperity and competitive standing in a global economy. If you agree, sign the pledge and join us in our fight.

The movement begins with you. We want to truly transform education in America, to create a system that puts students' needs first.

We believe:

· Great teachers can make a tremendous difference for students of every background; all children deserve great teachers.
· Students should not need luck to get a good education; every family should be able to choose an excellent school.
· Public dollars belong where they can make the biggest difference; we must fight ineffective programs and bureaucracy.

Jul 13, 2014 (Name not displayed) The teachers' unions have control of school systems. Individual principals or teachers (with their unions) can pretty much target families and destroy them. There needs to be more choice and more outside oversight.
