Upon the passage of the 2012 Farm Bill by the Senate, Montana's senior U.S. Senator Max Baucus noted that this legislation was truly a "jobs" bill, helping many in his state and elsewhere.
The 2012 Farm Bill also contains many provisions that provide food assistance to America's hungriest. Vicki Escarra, President and CEO of Feeding America, released the following statement following the Senate's passage of the 2012 Farm Bill and its impact on charitable organizations like her own: "The need for federal nutrition assistance programs has never been greater. With unemployment stuck above 8% nationally, millions of families scraping by with reduced wages or hours, and the charitable system stretched to the breaking point, it is critical that the 2012 Farm Bill protect and strengthen hunger-relief programs."
Escarra also noted that the bipartisan efforts to pass this bill were crucial and commended the Senators for their resolve to help others.
The current Farm Bill expires September 30, 2012. The Farm Bill now awaits action in the House of Representatives.
