Kindergarten teacher Martha Rivera Alanis was honored by the governor of the northern Mexico state of Nuevo Leon for her extreme courage in saving the lives of her students as a gun battle raged outside her classroom. 5 people were killed in a shootout at a taxi stand next to the school but Senora Alanis calmly got her kids on the ground and kept them calm by singing songs with them.
Alanis admits that she was afraid but it was necessary to protect her 5 and 6 year olds.
"Of course I was scared, but like I've said, my kids pushed me through it all," the 33 year old professor and mother of two kids said.
