More than $1 million in donations given to Mercy Corps

This month, the global humanitarian agency Mercy Corps and its partner The GreaterGood Network mark a milestone: $1 million given to fight global poverty and hunger over the past twelve years. The GreaterGood Network is a collection of websites that enables people to support charities and causes they care about, at no cost to them. Mercy Corps was one of the first beneficiaries of The Hunger Site, the flagship website of the GreaterGood Network, launched in June 1999.

With funding provided through The Hunger Site and GreaterGood.org, Mercy Corps has delivered much needed food security to beneficiaries around the globe in times of natural disaster, such as the floods in Pakistan last year or when the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan this spring.

The support provided year-round by GreaterGood.org also allows Mercy Corps  to respond to the "silent disasters" in the poorest regions of the world, those not making the nightly news.

Over the next few days in the GreaterGood.org blog, we will show how these donations to Mercy Corps has made a difference in Niger, Congo, Uganda, Indonesia, Darfur, and more.

Mercy Corps has benefited from three different funding sources through The GreaterGood Network. The first is The Hunger Site’s “Click to Give” campaign, where as a “Click Partner,” Mercy Corps receives a donation each time a visitor clicks the button at the top of the page. The second source of funding is The Hunger Site store, where a percentage of the retail price for each purchase is set aside for charity. And finally, through Gifts That Give More which allows donors to select specific programs, including regional disaster relief efforts.

"We applaud The GreaterGood Network and GreaterGood.org for their work, and congratulate them on twelve successful years of innovative fundraising and awareness-raising on issues of vital importance," said Mercy Corps CEO Neal Keny-Guyer. "This partnership shows that each person, making even a small donation or taking a quick action, can have a huge impact on the lives of others."
