Due to ongoing humanitarian needs in Syria, the Zakat Foundation of America (ZF), a humanitarian non-profit in Bridgeview, Illinois, will be donating $50,000 to Syria.
Halil Demir is the executive director of ZF and he spoke about the crisis in Syria. ZF also has representatives in 46 different countries around the world.
"Due to our established presence in this region before this crisis, we were able to mobilize quickly. ...[T]he situation in Syria continues to worsen and the need for assistance becomes more dire each day," said Demir.
Zakat is a development and relief group that helps Africa, South Asia as well as the Middle East.
Violence has been ongoing in Syria since March 16 of this year, according to Reuters. The Government resigned on March 29. The Local Coordination Committee reports that 1,300 civilians have been killed since February of this year. Many displaced people and refugees have been forced to flee into Turkey, and the U.N. Security Council is reviewing a draft resolution concerning the violence in Syria.
