During the Burundian civil war, combatants on both sized of the decade-long conflict killed cows in acts of revenge. When it came time to rebuild, the World Bank's International Development Association fund worked to help the region recover.
One aspect of the development plan was to give cows to families in need. In this video clip, farmer Jean Bosco Hakizimana describes how his world has changed for the better after receiving a cow that provides him with food for his children, a source of income, and fertilizer for his fields.
