The Food Recovery Network, launched in 2011, ended 2012 with more than 108,000 pounds of food delivered to homeless shelters and food banks.
The organization added six new chapters in 2012: Providence College, University of Texas at Austin, Scripps/Harvey Mudd/Claremont McKenna, Rhode Island School of Design, University of Michigan, and Rochester Institute of Technology. Along with the original chapters at University of Maryland College Park, Brown University, Pomona College, and University of California Berkeley, these student volunteers are taking a very simple idea -- eliminate waste and send the food where it is needed most -- into a nationwide effort to combat hunger.
GreaterGood.og supports their efforts through the Gifts The Give More program at The Hunger Site.
