Room To Read works around the world to improve access to education. Many of their efforts focus on encouraging girls to stay in school. In sub-Saharan Africa, an estimated 54% of girls do not complete primary school, let alone advance to a secondary education level.
Yet studies show that girls who do complete their secondary education earn higher wages and boost their community's economic growth; are more likely to have smaller, healthier, and better-educated families; and are less likely to contract HIV.
Room to Read's Girls' Education program in Zambia helps keep girls in school by providing school supplies, uniforms and transportation, along with tutoring, adult mentors, and other support to equip them with skills to navigate key life decisions.
