Dr. Goodall Visits Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary

Dr. Jane Goodall visited the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary this summer.

Although the sanctuary is best known for rescuing orphaned chimpanzees, it also provides a home and rehabilitation services for other animals and birds.

Among the highlights of her trip was releasing seventeen African Grey parrots back into the wild. These birds were confiscated in Bulgaria after being illegally shipped from Lebanon. The parrots lived in quarantine at Ngamba Island until it was determined that it was safe to release them back into the wild.

"I am excited to be here and pull the string that has given these parrots their freedom back to fly out," said Goodall during the release.

Located in Uganda, the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary has provided a home for orphaned animals since 1998. GreaterGood.org supports this charitable partner through the Gifts That Give More program.
