Construction on Darfur Peace & Development Organization's new high school in El Fasher, North Darfur, will be completed in summer 2011. The school will have six classrooms, two libraries, two computer labs, four teacher offices, and a cafeteria.
This high school is expected to serve 460 students in its first year.
The project began when David and Donna Frieze of Boston requested that in lieu of wedding gifts their friends and family send donations to DPDO.
With an allocation of land from North Darfur State Government, construction on the Gangy High School began. Construction proceeded steadily throughout 2010, with doors and windows installed in December.
DPDO staff began the process of hiring a school headmaster and teachers in January 2011. The students enrolled each year will have been displaced and/or orphaned by the conflict.
GreaterGood.org supports DPDO's efforts in Darfur through the Gifts That Give More [tm] program and other donations.
