More than 9,000 people have crossed into Jordan since January 1, 2013, following the fighting ongoing in Syria. But refugees are faced with increasingly dismal conditions at the camps. Winter rains and strong winds have swept away or flooded many tents.
Both children and elderly are seen at high risk by aid organizations like Mercy Corps, who is working to supply adequate winter clothing, blankets, and shelter to those in need.
A number of riots broke out this week at the Zaatari camp, further endangering the women and children seeking refuge there as well as the aid workers attempting to get supplies to them.
